Like I mentioned in my post on Lai Mohammed’s troubles, he is gaining a lot of support from sections of the country over the controversial statement he is accused of making.

The minister was supposed to have hinted at a ban on Nigerian entertainers shooting (or producing) music videos and movies abroad, much to the chagrin of Nigerian Entertainers who have issued multiple statements stating their displeasure. Rugged man wrote an open letter to the minister strongly stating his displeasure, so did the Coalition of Nigerian Entertainers (CNE) who outright called for his dismissal as a minister of the federal government.

Their statement went further by asking for Alhaji Lai Mohammed to rescind his statement within 7 days or the government should prepare for a nationwide protest. This is what has now irked the Youths For Change NG. They have also dared the Entertainers on their plan to hold this protest.

HIV is such a scourge to humanity, but thanks to breakthroughs and advancement in science, a 9-year old South African girl has become only the 3rd child to beat the disease into long-term remission, nine years after receiving the drugs.

The girl was given the anti-AIDS drugs when she was 1 year old for 10 months and then taken off the drugs as part of a medical trial. 8 years and 9 months later, the girl is healthy without needing treatment as reported by a research team at the Internation AIDS Society conference on HIV science in Paris.

I came across an article this week that listed the salaries of the top 10 highest paid African Presidents. According to Africaranking.com, South African Presisent, Jacob Zuma is the highest paid leader in Africa receiving an annual wage of $272k and Rwanda’s president Paul Kagame ranked #10 receiving $85k per year. These guys are mong the highest paid leaders in the world, this is a continent where many live on only $2 per day.

On another note, isn’t it a surprise that the President of Nigeria never made the list? Perhaps its because the wages listed only reflects base salaries, regardless though, is the Nigerian President’s salary that low? Blasphemy! I hear Nigerians say. They should take solace in the fact that a common Local Government Chairman in Nigeria is richer than all 10 presidents put together. I’m sure every African (if not the world) knows that already. Anyway, here’s the list in full:

Following the media storm that greeted a story about a ban on shooting music videos abroad, the Coalition of Nigerian Entertainers (CNE) has called on acting President Yemi Osinbajo to sack the minister of information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed with immediate effect. In addition, an ultimatum was also issued for the minister to rescind his statement or the government should prepare for a nationwide protest.

President of the entertainment group, Kenule Nwiya had this to say: “We the Coalition of Nigeria entertainers wish to inform the Acting President of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osinbajo that he should sack Lai Mohammed with immediate effect if the statement against Nigeria Entertainers is not withdrawn in less than 7days.” “We shall lead a nationwide protest to caution the government on the unhealthy decision which will undermine the international influence of Nigerian Music & Movie Content if the statement is not withdrawn and we also want the misfit Minister of Information to stop saying things that will cause crisis in our beloved country.”

You know how they say politics is ‘dog eat dog?’ well, in Nigeria, it is ‘hyena eat hyena,’ or ‘jackal eat jackal,’ depending on the political camp. Since her husband’s incapacitation following an illness since May, Aisha Buhari took to Facebook to say “The Hyenas and Jackals will soon be sent out of the kingdom” in a cryptic reply to a senator’s post. For those of us watching from the sidelines, we decoded the message instantly and understood the bloody nature of the politics and the drama unfolding in Nigeria.

The hyenas and jackals are indeed circling and that’s because they can smell blood; Buhari’s blood. Out of the country since May 7th, after only returning from a 7-week stint earlier in the year, President Buhari’s only communication with his country has only been through written statements. Because of this, rumours abound in the land, some even claimed he was already dead. The president’s handlers have always been fighting a raging fire, trying to salvage his reputation since his absence, and I must say, their efforts has been SHAMBOLIC. It annoys me that President Buhari’s media handlers first tried to pull the wool over all our eyes by saying he just went to london for ‘a check up,’ it took 7 whole weeks for Nigerians to see a President they voted overwhelmingly for just a few years ago. The media machine certainly forgot we now live in the age of Facebook and Twitter. My annoyance doesn’t end there, now Mr President has returned to London for another ‘check up,’ information on his whereabouts, his treatment, etc has now completely dried up. What we now see are pictures of Mr President waving from a window, or sitting in front of a Telly.
