This is the battle of the billionaires. Just yesterday, Jeff Bezos overtook Bill Gates as the world’s richest person when Amazon’s stock opened at 1.6% on Thursday morning, adding $1.4bn to his net worth. The lead lasted only briefly though, as Bill Gates has now reclaimed his spot as top dog after Amazon’s share price dipped in the afternoon.

Jeff Bezos, who is 53 is the founder of Amazon.com the world’s largest online shopping retailer. He founded in 1994 and initially operated from his garage, before making it into the big time. He retains a 17% stake in the company and only increased its value by 40%.

Bill Gates is the founder of Microsoft and also the creator of Giving Pledge, a campaign set up to encourage billionaires to give at least half of their wealth to charitable causes. So far, as at the end of 2016, Gates has given away $32.9 billion of his wealth to charity. Gates also runs the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, a philanthropic organisation that employs more than 1,400.

Like I mentioned in my post on Lai Mohammed’s troubles, he is gaining a lot of support from sections of the country over the controversial statement he is accused of making.

The minister was supposed to have hinted at a ban on Nigerian entertainers shooting (or producing) music videos and movies abroad, much to the chagrin of Nigerian Entertainers who have issued multiple statements stating their displeasure. Rugged man wrote an open letter to the minister strongly stating his displeasure, so did the Coalition of Nigerian Entertainers (CNE) who outright called for his dismissal as a minister of the federal government.

Their statement went further by asking for Alhaji Lai Mohammed to rescind his statement within 7 days or the government should prepare for a nationwide protest. This is what has now irked the Youths For Change NG. They have also dared the Entertainers on their plan to hold this protest.

Following the media storm that greeted a story about a ban on shooting music videos abroad, the Coalition of Nigerian Entertainers (CNE) has called on acting President Yemi Osinbajo to sack the minister of information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed with immediate effect. In addition, an ultimatum was also issued for the minister to rescind his statement or the government should prepare for a nationwide protest.

President of the entertainment group, Kenule Nwiya had this to say: “We the Coalition of Nigeria entertainers wish to inform the Acting President of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osinbajo that he should sack Lai Mohammed with immediate effect if the statement against Nigeria Entertainers is not withdrawn in less than 7days.” “We shall lead a nationwide protest to caution the government on the unhealthy decision which will undermine the international influence of Nigerian Music & Movie Content if the statement is not withdrawn and we also want the misfit Minister of Information to stop saying things that will cause crisis in our beloved country.”

Nigerian Parents Are First Class Drill Sergeants.

Ah Nigerian parents, don’t you just love them? Growing up under the roof of Nigerian parents can be daunting, let me tell you. Do you remember all the instructions they bark out every 5 minutes? A typical Nigerian parent is a bona fide drill sergeant, the only difference is that with a drill sergeant, you understand exactly what the instruction is, but with Nigerian parents, that instruction is mixed with innuendos, sarcasms, ironies, positive and of course negative vibes. Interestingly, what they really mean is contained within that set of instruction(s) and you are supposed to somehow decipher it. Because of that, I have come up with 10 of the most common confusing instructions and sayings by Nigerian parents. See below: Read Full Article

Your Facebook Favs of the week (1-9 Apr)

Every now and again, I come across some very interesting posts from users worldwide worth sharing. Perhaps its boredom, but  I decided to collate 5 of last week’s posts I personally found interesting. That’s right, I’m about to lumber you with my own sense of humour. Don’t be alarmed though, I did a quick tally of some of the most engaging posts (based on number of views and likes) and came up with the following 5. Warning: some of the entries are seriously funny.

Let’s begin.

#1 Even fish can be jerks! [1.7m views | 109k likes]

Talk about letting sleeping fish lie right?. Ok 3 fishes in a tank, one is trying to catch a quick nap in his perfectly dug hole but his amazingly annoying tank ‘mate’ just won’t let him be. The white coloured fish (not real name) keeps covering the hole with sand which infuriates the black coloured fish (yeah I know how that sounds) who comes out from his hole every 5 secs to tell off his ‘mate’. Anyway, watch the video below.

The most expensive diamond in the world, weighing 59.6 carats (like that means anything to me) flawless, the largest known vivid pink diamond, took 2 years to cut and polish…. and someone paid 71.2 million cool ones for it. Now just think about it, who is the lucky girl?…. and where does she live? Watch the video below.

#3 She didn’t see it coming. (38m views | 228k likes)

A couple sat watching TV, she asks him if he drinks beer (even though he has beer in his hands), he says Yes! and she goes into ‘Einstein mode’ breaking down how much his beer drinking habit would cost him over his life time. Watch the video to hear his reply. The punchline makes it all worthwhile. Watch the video below.

This hilarious text message between a churchgoer and his pastor got me in stitches and judging by its 3.8m views, I’m sure it got a whole lot of others in stitches too. Some of the things you want to say, but you just… CAN’T. My stomach still hurts, I laughed so hard. Watch the video below.
